Not great.
Quite a popular story, one of the four film adaptations, I had honestly never heard of it. Crosby is a good lead, the rest of the cast just doesn't cooperate very well. Although Hardwicke and Bendix are still quite funny.
The best part of the film is the first half hour, after which the fun disappears a bit. The film lasts far too long, especially the trip that Crosby takes with Hardwicke towards the end of the film feels unnecessary. By the way, Fleming is a terrible box in this film, little chemistry with Crosby.
I also didn't like the songs, there was some clumsy but quite funny humor in the first half hour. In any case, don't bother watching the other film adaptations.

Cast in a musical guise, this film leans somewhat on lightness and humor, but at times it also veers towards drama, which is a solid mix with an emphasis on the light-hearted side.
The songs are reasonably successful and not overly long, the emphasis is more on the story instead of the musical part and I thought that was a good choice.
Bing Crosby does a nice job and Rhonda Fleming is a beauty that we can't get enough of.
