"A comedy about doing the right thing with the wrong person."
A year after his brother's death, the emotionally shattered Jack (Mark Duplass) accepts his best friend Iris (Emily Blunt)'s offer to go to her family's remote island for a week. Upon arrival at the house, Jack discovers that Iris's sister, Hannah (Rosemarie DeWitt), had the same idea and the two spend an awkward evening. The next morning, Iris shows up unannounced, creating an emotional state about sisters, brothers, and friends.

Small-scale and sympathetic film. Your Sister's Sister puts three characters together in a holiday home and lets the actors do the work. A drunken sex party, feelings that are not expressed, unprocessed feelings about the death of a brother/lover, the consequences of a questionable decision that has to be faced etc. It all sounds very dramatic now, but Your Sister's Sister is also at times very funny and above all sincere and recognizable.
Emily Blunt is one of my favorite actresses, and here she shows why. With refreshing, engaging and at times emotional play, she completely captivates you. Duplass and DeWitt also play good roles. In the final section, the film does take it easy (dramatic twists and turns are swept under the rug), but Duplass' speech and the ladies' reaction are so touching, and so well acted, that you can't help but notice the film. beauty flaws quickly forgive.

I quite liked it. The acting and the conversations seemed quite realistic to me and the themes and the story appealed to me, but the ending causes points to be deducted. I found it so unsatisfactory. That's too bad. 3*

Although the film has plenty of romantic and comedic moments, Your Sister's Sister is not a traditional romantic comedy. It's an indie movie that's character driven. A mumble core. The film is about the psychological condition of three people. The film tells about fears and insecurities, but also about feelings of love and friendship. In successive scenes, which are sometimes rather improvisational, the characters are confronted with unprocessed emotions and unpleasant honesty.
Mark Duplass, Emily Blunt and Rosemarie DeWitt play the three main characters. They do a great job of giving their characters emotional depth. The bilateral and trilateral interactions are alternately exciting, annoying, poignant and hilarious. Good acting from the three. Full of facial expressions and gestures. The interplay is wonderful to watch.
The film is a dynamic whole of fascinating scenes and uses a nice smooth rhythm. Events and talk sessions don't last forever, but pass quickly and vividly. As a point of criticism, you could say that some conflict situations are brought to a head very quickly. This is understandable in light of the dynamics. A bit unbelievable in light of the authenticity. The pleasant constellation of characters and their ambiguous personalities that keep the story so wonderfully turbulent more than compensate for that criticism.
Your Sister's Sister is a sharp and very fine tragicomedy.
