Great enjoyed.

After especially 'The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou' and 'Moonrise Kingdom' you could call me a fan of Wes Anderson. This man makes great movies, including this one. Colorful, absurd, full of humor and it makes you warm. Formidable cast also with Fiennes as the leading man. But almost all of the characters (played by many of Anderson's regulars) are a joy to behold. Dafoe, Brody, Keitel, Norton, Goldblum, each and every one of them brought a big smile to my face.

Awesome!

This feels like an Anderson as a genius Anderson should be. The question is how he will ever rise above this, but in my opinion easily his best film so far.

You lose some humanity, black Allo Allo comparisons loom in the distance, but Anderson's genius directing immediately wipes them away. It's fun from the first to the very last scene.

Wonderful role by Dafoe, but the rest of the cast is also great in the film. Visually especially a perfect mix of animation and live action, the soundtrack fits the film very well and the humor suits me, nice and sluggish, but still juicy.

A surprise, because while I quite enjoy Anderson's work, this one is out of the ordinary.

4.5* and a extended review

A writer [Tom Wilkinson/Jude Law] spends the month of August in the spa town of Nebelsbad in the Swiss Alps. During his stay at The Grand Budapest Hotel he learns the owner of the hotel [F. Murray Abraham] who tells him how he became the owner of The Grand Budapest. Largely a flashback in a flashback in the now familiar Anderson style: eccentric characters in precisely designed, colorful sets and acted with a straight face. But this time, Anderson – who drew inspiration from the work of early 19th-century writer Stefan Zweig – has come up with a story that, despite its complex narrative form, is considerably easier to follow than later films. Fiennes is sublime in the lead role and the cool humor regularly makes you laugh in this technically stunning film with an infectious, eccentric score. Composer Alexandre Desplat won one of the four Oscars for this highlight of Anderson's oeuvre.
