Described as a comedy while more drama with a few funny moments. Seemed like a lot of fun, a divorce that got completely out of hand!

Unfortunately I was well over half way there and still found it boring and only a few fun moments came along. So I didn't watch it anymore, I really didn't care anymore.

Laughing at fight breaks.

Spicy black comedy about a couple who go very far. DeVito wanted to portray an image of absurdity and childishness and takes the fight to the extreme. Both no longer behave as civilized people at all and are only out to make fun of each other. In current times, this is mainly reminiscent of the current Johnny Depp-Amber Heard lawsuit... With DeVito, who tells one of his customers the whole story, it comes across as moralizing, but it is a comedy that I liked. Thought it was a downside that little was done with the two children. I expected a bigger role for them.

Quite fun.

Where I expected a good family comedy, The War of the Roses turns out to be largely the opposite. Forget about morals in which divorce makes suffering means 'we actually love each other and should do better'. Danny DeVito keeps going and the Roses are simply killing each other. That last image in which Kathleen Turner knocks away Michael Douglas's hand is a great final shot. It's not all pitch black either, the Home Alone content is just a bit too high for that, but the aforementioned sharper edges are effectively around. Toffee in between.
