Magnolia I liked, but not great and with Adam Sandler I have nothing at all. This film took quite a while before I finally put it on. I certainly didn't regret it.

Anderson puts down an almost perfect film, the acting is fantastic, the music sublime, and also visually perfect.

Thick 4.5.

A PTA is always a movie to look forward to. Not that I'm a front row fan, but because PTA always tries to bring something extra to its productions. His films are also not just bite-sized, although I found this Punch-Drunk Love quite light-hearted. It is certainly not Magnolia where the frogs fall from the sky.

Adam Sandler, not the most beloved actor, but in Reign over me, The Meyerowitz Stories and hopefully soon also in Uncut gems, he convinced me that he can do more than just play idiotic pulp comedies. Here too a nice role of a single man who has a hard time dealing with all kinds of social contacts and emotions. He appears to be bipolar and suffers from mood disorders. At times inappropriate social behavior with things he takes very literally. Something like that should be "fun" when he meets a love, but this Punch-Drunk Love looks the other way. The film is honest and beautiful.

Not that I'm over the moon about this movie, but I did enjoy watching it quite a bit. Not the "masterpiece" that some others see in it, but pure entertainment. A fine romcom with some drama and especially some "PTA magic" with some quirks here and there.

What a wonderful drama. Everything is right in this film, the camera work, the soundtrack, and the wonderfully awkward Sandler. He gets under your skin, as he often does. Sure, he's also delivered some dragons from movies, but in my experience, he's an underrated actor. He often manages to strike a chord with me. The chemistry between the protagonists could have been a bit stronger, and I missed a real climax, so I'm stuck at *3.5 stars.
