Land of the Lost plot

"Right place. Wrong time."

Through his theory of parallel universe travel and an attack on talk show host Matt Lauer, Dr. Rick Marshall (Will Ferrell) is taunted as a scientist and demoted to a teacher at the George C. Page Museum where he meets Holly (Anna Friel) who awakens him and his ideals, causing Marshall to assemble his portable tachyon device. Boldly, Holly drags the recalcitrant Marshall to test the device, and they find themselves in a mysterious land, where dinosaurs still exist and strange peoples called Pakuni and Sleestak.

I kind of have a love-hate relationship with Will Ferrell. I think a number of films in which he plays are quite good, but also a large number of films with him are bad and this film actually belongs to that.

The story was quite nice and visually like the sets and effects (including the dinosaur T-rex) it all looked nice, but the execution of the story is very bland and childish and there is actually little to laugh about. There are a few nice scenes here and there (including the hassle with reporter Matt Lauer in the beginning and end of the story) and there is also something to smile about (like at the end with Will Stanton and Chaka[/spoiler ] and all the women), but that's about it. Although I have played Will Ferrell (in the role of scientist Dr. Rick Marshall) much better and above all much more fun, he still did a bit of credit here. The other two protagonists, the beautiful Anna Friel (in the role of Holly Cantrell) and Danny R. McBride (in the role of Will Stanton), didn't really appeal to me. Jorma Taccone in the role of the annoying ape-like "Chaka" was terribly bad, by the way. Because the film only lasts about 90 minutes and relatively many absurd things happen, it still looks somewhat nice. Although I did sometimes fast forward the film a bit.

All in all a mediocre to bad Adventure / Comedy film, which is only nice to see once and only for once.

Don't feel like giving too long an opinion, but Ferrell's head remains so funny that I still want to give this lame and sometimes very weak film a small pass. If you really don't know which movie to watch on a drizzly Sunday, just put it on. He quickly looks away. You just have to take the script with wheelbarrows and let the absurdities come at you.

And I completely agree with Theunissen about that ape-man. They could have left them at home.
