In the year 1972, a rugby team flies to Chile. En route, the plane crashes into a glacier in the Andes Mountains, leaving 29 passengers stranded. In the midst of some of the most rugged and inaccessible environments, they strive to stay alive. For this they have to make drastic decisions.

The story of the Uruguayan rugby team, whose flight to Santiago crashed in the Andes on October 13, 1972, has been filmed for 30 years as Alive (1993), but this version is based on a 2012 book by Pablo Vierci that is based on personal experiences. conversations with 16 survivors. 28 of the 45 passengers survive the crash and hope that they will be picked up by a rescue expedition within a few days. As time passes, both the moral and physical strength of the survivors decrease and they face many dilemmas. Bayona reconstructed the crash in a way that differs significantly from, for example, Cast Away (2000) and Flight (2012), but is just as impressive. The screenplay, which Bayona worked on with three co-writers, unfortunately takes little time to portray the characters. His respect for those involved may have prevented him from dramatizing the story, but the result is that you get little connection with the characters. Technically excellent, but dramatically ineffective. During the credits you will see photos taken by one of the survivors in the Andes Mountains.

Good film about a plane that crashes in the Andes and whose passengers try to survive. It remains, of course, a special, true survival story. The film clearly shows how they manage to survive as a group. It all looks good and the finale is gripping. Nevertheless, my preference is for the previously published Alive (based on the same disaster). Easily 3.5 stars.

I was wrong once again. Even though I still knew the general outline of the story, I thought the film was fantastic and even better than "Alive".
Maybe I would have liked to see how things went after the rescue, and how difficult it was for the family and themselves to deal with the fact...I'm not going to give anything away, but anyone who has seen the film knows what I mean.
The acting was also fantastic...no, really a top film for me.
