Phew, difficult to judge. Until well into the film it remains superficial, shouty and lacks finesse. But towards the end there are a number of unexpectedly striking scenes. Therefore, the benefit of the doubt. *3.0

OK.

I didn't think it was a very special film actually, Then Came You is a film that wants to score by introducing a painful subject into the story, but only half succeeds in this. It all feels a bit too forced as far as I'm concerned, unfortunately.

Now this movie isn't exactly sentimental either, which I don't mind. It wants to strike a cheerful tone and Williams must mainly ensure that. She does it very enthusiastically and with the full 105%, but she never wants to feel like a realistic or believable character. It's too much of a cartoon character if you ask me.

Butterfield remains extremely suitable for this type of role and he does this well, although it does feel as if he is given little space. Partly because the story does not allow this and because Williams demands all the space. Dobrev also feels a bit discarded and has difficulty proving herself in this film.

It's quite entertaining, but I just didn't think it was a film I could empathize with. Williams' forced smile and the general situation are, in my opinion, simply not portrayed very realistically and are too cinematic. Not so bad, but it's a bit harder to get me on board.

It ends nicely and you want to look away quickly, but it really doesn't create any emotions. It is well-intentioned and not unnecessarily cloying. What I also really appreciated was the sometimes romantic tension between Butterfield and Williams. You would think that they would eventually end up together, but this doesn't happen.

Great entertainment, but it doesn't move me. Extra points for the good acting and the not too long running time. This film certainly didn't have to last much longer. I still give it a pass in a good mood.

The headstrong, high-spirited Skye [Maisie Williams] suffers from terminal cancer and meets the shy Calvin [Asa Butterfield] during a support group for fellow sufferers. The two become friends and Calvin decides to help Skye complete her bucket list. In a cheerful montage, Skye and Calvin complete the activities that are intended to be funny, but inevitably there comes a point where they have to face the end of life. Screenplay according to the time-honored tradition of the 'disease-of-the-week film'. Competently made and reasonably acted, but for connoisseurs of the genre there is nothing new on the horizon.
