Volcanologist John Shepherd concludes that recent unexplained volcanic activity could trigger a global catastrophe and lead to the extinction of humanity. Aided by some of his students and a colleague, the professor tries to gather evidence to convince the government. Nobody believes him, so he devises a plan himself to prevent the disaster.
