Pros:

-the deliciously wrong cover, with that pontifical legs and buttocks, this became a trend for the later film covers;

-entertaining opening scene in which the light-hearted tone is immediately set;

-the fantastic title song. Sheena Easton's eyes were liked so much by the makers that she is also the only Bond singer to be seen in the clip;

-nice seventies music, sometimes even disco-like. Good for the retro atmosphere;

- the blissful blonde skater Bibi and Bond's hilarious advice to her: "please don't grow up any further, the opposite sex won't survive it";

-the beautiful shots in Cyprus;

-the mountain climb (I just don't understand those shoelaces!);

-the chase scene with that ugly duck, quite hilarious;

-the silent supporting role of Charles Dance, who would later prove himself a great actor;

-the charms of Roger Moore, at more or less his peak in his career as James Bond;

-Margaret Thatcher at the end, great!

Cons:

-Bondgirl Carole Bouquet is beautiful but has no tits, is mediocre and poorly dubbed. Yes, then give me a wild night with hooker Bibi, if I had to ride a crooked skate...;

-lack of pace and cool stunts;

-in the scene with the ugly duck you can see too clearly when reversing that they use fast-forward;

-the underwater scenes are not tight enough, sometimes difficult to follow;

-the ski scenes are a bit lukewarm and bland;

-anti-climactic ending, without spectacle;

- no Q gadgets used;

- little interesting story.

All in all, one of the better Bond films, but it lacks some flair and action.

I find that during the review of the Bond series I can appreciate one film better than the previous viewing, but the opposite also happens.

That is the case with this FYEO, as I could appreciate this film a few years ago, it is much less now.

First of all, because the film doesn't really have a villain of level. A Bond film without a good villain is almost the same as fries without mayonnaise, they belong together.

The film does not have many memorable scenes either, but on the other hand, the most beautiful and diverse locations are visited. A scene that I think is memorable is the mountain climb at the end of the film. Very exciting display.

Furthermore, the skiing and bobsledding is nice, but then we have had most of it.

The Bond song has always been one of my favorites, great song. Furthermore, the film has many characters, most of them are completely uninteresting and unnecessary, and 'M' is of course missed. He passed away shortly before this film, they have solved this well by not immediately putting a replacement in his place.

Half off, 3*

And further with For Your Eyes Only, once again Roger Moore and a film I expected a bit more from after Moonraker and especially The Man With The Golden Gun. And while entertaining, it was a bit disappointing.

However, the film starts with an iconic scene, the helicopter and the wheelchair. A scene that I saw in my youth during a family occasion, because we had to see that, without knowing at the time that it belonged to James Bond. The Sheena Easton theme song may also be there. A more than decent story is emerging around counter-espionage and espionage in general with rival secret services and a device as the bet. For a moment it looks like Bond is really doing detective work.

But then things get a little bit messy. Most of the trouble and progress in the case comes especially when he's chasing the females again, and the chase scene is also a constant repetition of moves. Twice chased by motorbikes, then by buggies on the beach and later on skis. It is entertaining and spectacular, but it is also very much the same. Then there's the diving thing and the submarine that Bond and Melina are traveling in. It's cringe-inducing how he knows everything and the orders get out of hand while it's her work and equipment. I think it should be the other way around. And then there's the yellow Duck with the enormous stamina.

Despite a beautiful Bond babe, Carola Bouquet, For Your Eyes Only can be called entertaining but far from good, especially in the absence of a good and appealing bad guy. One of the few things that Bond himself gets credit for, in my opinion, is that he doesn't assault the attention-sick figure skater. But otherwise it is all interchangeable, this Bond film does not stand out compared to other Moore films. It's not boring anywhere, but I expected something more from this film.
