Stormbreaker plot
"Rule the school. Save the world."
Based on Anthony Horowitz's Alex Rider books. In Stormbreaker, 14-year-old orphan Alex Rider is raised by his uncle. However, this uncle also turns out to be an agent with the British security service MI6 and so Alex is trained as a super spy from an early age. After his uncle dies, Alex himself is hired by a special division of MI6 and tasked with a very important mission.

Had to find out while looking that I had seen it before. I think I could still enjoy it then, much less now.
Well, of course nothing new. Gadgets that fit perfectly (not too much, not too little, but just enough and also the right one), a newly made friend who gets caught up in the action (even the girl he's in love with falls in love with it) not left out), is a bit more complicated than initially thought so that there can be an 'unexpected grande finale', one of the bad guys who (literally) extends a reaching hand and a 'grown' ambitious boy pictured at the end to keep the grit in (etc, etc), it's all there and it all fits just right. Not a big deal, if the movie still entertains enough..
Unfortunately that is not the case. Too childish to really take seriously and enjoy the action or go along with the adventure, but it is also not compensated with (real) humor so you don't get any entertaining nonsense. The tone does not find a real balance and does not surprise in any of the areas. Remarkably little (successful) espionage (which usually lapses into action), had expected something more in that area.
Cast looks well cared for at first glance, but you can actually expect more from it.
Not very memorable (as has already been shown), it will soon be forgotten this time as well.
2* (because it is still one of those movies that looks nice and I could appreciate that part with bitchfight + television images)

Nice mini James Bond movie. The story is reasonable and somewhat predictable, but the acting is good. Lead actor Alex Pettyfer does a great job, but especially the supporting roles of Mickey Rourke, Bill Nighy, Damian Lewis, Robbie Coltrane, Stephen Fry, Andy Serkis and Ewan McGregor make the film an entertaining whole.

This is the kind of movie that you like as a kid but then can't watch it again because it shatters your childhood idea of how you found it back then. When I saw the film when I was 13, I thought it was fantastic. But now that I am older and wiser I can no longer look at him. The awkward acting of Bill Nighy trying to be funny which really just doesn't work. Furthermore, the acting of the former Clueless actress is really disastrous. I don't know whether I should laugh or cry in the shower. It's honestly a drama!
