Kari-gurashi no Arietti plot
"Do not be seen by humans. That's been the law of children of the underfloor."
Fourteen-year-old Arrietty and the rest of her family are so small that they live under the floors of normal people's houses. They have always kept their existence hidden, and their own house consists of things that they have 'borrowed' from the normal people. However, this first changes when Arrietty is discovered by a boy.

Sweet and nice. Now that applies to the vast majority of Ghibli films, but this one is particularly successful.
Yes, what can I say about it? Much of the film feels like quintessentially Ghibli. A sweet boy and an adventurous girl as main characters, the love for greenery (and fortunately without moralism this time), the drawing style. I actually don't have that many problems with the latter, because the style in itself suits me quite well, although it would be nice if they would dare to experiment a bit more. Also in terms of animation I don't really feel that big leaps are made, although the camera movements do feel a bit more free than in most other Ghibli films. What the physicist in me really liked was how in the film the water behaves on a small scale. This shows a lot of love from the makers for detail.
The story is also typical, but that doesn't stop me from completely losing myself in it. Wonderfully imaginative starting point, beautifully developed, and also moving at the necessary moments without becoming melodramatic. The fact that the soundtrack doesn't come to the fore too much also helps. The sung songs weren't necessary for me, but they didn't bother me either, and the soundtrack was quite pleasant.
Perhaps you can blame Ghibli for making isomorphic films, I can't stand it, because I have once again experienced it as compelling, beautifully detailed, atmospheric and moving. 4.5*.

Always nice Ghibli, here again beautiful animation. And I absolutely melt with this lovely sweet modern fairy tale too. The climax is already in the beginning when Arrietty and her father go hunting together for the first time in our big human world.

Now I was able to enjoy the Studio Ghibli offer on NF twice this week. The animation here is truly a feast for the eyes, taking advantage of the potential of the central visual motif (small -><-large) even more. It's a pity that the scenario here eagerly focuses on an antagonist, it gave me Over the Hedge-like vibes and that's what this Arrietty has not necessary right now.
