Steamboat Willie plot
Mickey Mouse controls a paddle steamer named "Wilie". The mouse imagines that he is the captain, but is then chased and chased away by the real captain: Boris Boef. When he has taken over the wheel, it turns out that he has not yet got rid of Mickey Mouse. When the boat docks at a pontoon to take some animals on board, including Clarabella Cow, the mouse hoists his girlfriend Minnie on board using a crane. With the help of a goat that has eaten part of a piece of music, the two cheerful mice then start making music. This to the dismay of Boris Boef, who does not like the noise.

Great fun, these very old shorts with the original Mickey Mouse and Boris Boef. During his boat trip, Mickey uses everything and everyone as an instrument for his piece of music (to Boris's chagrin).

The start of Mickey Mouse, although you don't really recognize the mouse that became known later. To then disappear into oblivion as an animation figure and mainly serve as a mascot for the entire company. A parody of Steamboat Bill Jr with Buster Keaton that is a lot better than this short film. This is a well-known short film in film history and Disney, as usual, mainly makes an animation of it that shows sound through the images that move along to the rhythm of the music. But it is not more than film history.

Charming in all its simplicity. This short was in a Mickey Mouse compilation I had on VHS. That's why I saw this very often as a child, but I don't think I have seen it for about twenty years now. That's why I looked it up again and it's funny how you can still fill in certain things just before they happen based on your memory. Nice sensation.
Does it mean a lot? No of course not. Although Mickey Mouse and a number of other very well-known Disney characters are introduced here, they are quite a far cry from what they ultimately become. It also seems as if Walt is experimenting here with what is possible in the field of animation in combination with music. In any case, it does provide some humorous images and Steamboat Willie is, yes, still fun to watch. If you ask me which Disney I prefer, this one or the streaming giant that is mainly busy milking all kinds of franchises (including their own catalog) with countless sequels, spin-offs and reboots, the answer seems obvious to me.
