The Purple Heart plot
"An EPIC SAGE of RAW COURAGE!"
Harvey Ross (Dana Andrews) is the captain of a World War II flying unit at the time of the first attack on the Japanese mainland. Their plane is hit and eight men land with their parachutes in China. They are captured, taken to Japan, convicted of murder and falsely accused of bombing hospitals and schools. They are subjected to a brutal lawsuit that goes against all international law. When the threat of death proves ineffectual, the American airmen are tortured one by one, destroying them both mentally and physically.
