Finally seen. The long playing time and the black and white kept me from putting on Schindler's List for a long time, despite the fact that I'm quite a fan of war dramas and especially those of the Second World War. I'm really glad I watched it because it's a great movie, captivating from start to finish and the ending is very beautiful. I'm not sure yet whether I'm going to put it in my top 10 because I'd rather leave lesser known films in it than a film with 7000+ votes. Hard to say if I would have liked the film better in color. I think there's something about black and white because it makes it easier to visualize the bleakness of the war. It is all colorless anyway and life is very hopeless, especially for the Jews, so that colors would brighten it up too much. Only downside is the language, so 4.5*.

Finally got to see it after 25 years. The fact that the film is directed by Steven Spielberg is a big plus for me because Spielberg's films have never disappointed me before. In terms of genre, this is slightly different, because the drama genre is not my thing at all. Of course this movie is not only a drama movie but also a war movie, but since it's not the kind of war movie I like (for example, I think that other war movie by Steven Spielberg, Saving Private Ryan is the best war movie ever made), namely the war movies that revolve around the battle, the name Spielberg completely convinced me to watch Schindler's List.

It also didn't help in advance that I knew it wasn't my genre, but at the same time also knowing that the playing time would well exceed 3 hours. Amazingly, those hours flew by.

The story of Oskar Schindler is strongly developed without further ado. From businessman to a man who showed more and more human emotions and decided to help the Jews. A lot of time is taken for these events, but it never lasts too long. For a long time I thought it was a reasonable film which I found to be stronger when Schindler started negotiating to save the Jews of Auschwitz . The scene where he realized he could have gotten even more Jews out if he sold his car and gold pin, while surrounded by people he saved what a moment.

Anyway, I liked Schindler's List better than I could have ever imagined, even if it's not my genre, Spielberg knows how to film this story in a very strong and gripping way. Occasionally even so poignant that the age classification is quite striking when you see how the Jews find death.

Often seen many fragments of this film and partly because the story has had enough attention over the years, it was known and never felt the need to watch this film "completely" again, until now.

I am a fan of WWII movies and in general I like it when a movie lasts around 2 hours (or longer), so that there is room to tell a story.

The film is a bit incoherent in the beginning and only starts to get a real story after 45 minutes, but that can never be uninteresting in my opinion. The same goes for the rest of the movie. After all, it's based on true events, so here's what it is and how the storyline unfolds. Schindler's list in 1.5 hours just doesn't exist (thankfully).

Some scenes were really very impressive/horrifying and the choice of black and white is great!

(Imagine, the ash rain, where it comes from....)

I often get annoyed when people complain that movies like this aren't in German and that there's some "Hollywood" in them.

It seems that for some reason that "must" be said....

I think you don't understand the message and you don't have enough empathy "at that moment".

These are stories that "must" be told and that is also done superbly in this film! (I also initially heard the Germans speak German and the Poles Polish, which changed into English before the film, which I really liked).

Although I think Liam Neeson has a too friendly appearance and too sympathetic head, he played a fantastic role here and I also found all the other roles very believable.

The added ending, with the actors and survivor at the grave of Schindler and the Rose (by Neeson), I found very poignant.

Don't say anything, just show...

A masterpiece!

5*
