Father Merrin is a young priest who works at a dig site in Africa. Suddenly a boy falls ill in the camp. Soon the boy is completely possessed by the demon Pazuzu. Merrin is the only one who can keep Pazuzu from world domination.

This looks a bit more like part 1 of the exorcist.
In the prequel we see Merrin who first has to deal with the demon in an African-esque village. It's not really exciting, but the story is all in all a good one. But what a horrible actor that Chamberlain is! 3*

Don't think this is a good part.
Just like part 2, too much hassle in Africa, which makes the film deviate far too much from the core stuff.
All those intrigues with that tribe did not interest me. The excavation of the temple was nice, but that's about it. Also thought that demon was badly done, just like the horrible sfx.
Disappointing part, really couldn't do anything with it 1*

Atmospheric but uninteresting part from the well-known series with a fine Skarsgard. The film starts off reasonably well and quickly degenerates into tediousness. Average.
