Blue Steel plot

"For a rookie cop, there's one thing more dangerous than uncovering a killer's fantasy...becoming it."

When Megan Turner graduates from the New York Police Academy, her life's dream comes true. Everything seems beautiful: the uniform, the badge, the gun... But then everything goes horribly wrong. On her first nighttime patrol, she prevents a robbery at a supermarket and shoots an armed robber in the process. Suddenly the bandit's weapon turns out to be untraceable and the witnesses do not want to substantiate Megan's statement about his weapon possession. Megan is suspended for killing an unarmed suspect. Meanwhile, the city has to deal with a series of brutal, shameless murders. The homicide department headed by Detective Nick Mann is at a crossroads. Between the apparently incoherent murders there appears to be a connection.

Underrated movie.

The story doesn't have much to offer, but the film manages, partly supported by a good soundtrack, to raise the tension to great heights at times.

In addition, Ron Silver plays a devilishly scary crook and Lee Curtis also comes out well.

Nah.

The film clearly does its best to be dark and atmospheric, there are also some half-successful attempts. But despite all the effort, this is little more than a somewhat corny 90s police thriller, as there are so many out there. Nice for the real enthusiast perhaps, but I can hardly really enjoy it.

The score still wants to bring a bit of atmosphere, the persistent rain also brings a certain charm. But you've had enough of that. Acting is poor, both from Curtis and Silver. In any case, many familiar faces in this film, of the "I would rather not have remembered" type.

Plot is also hardly worth anything, from a distance reminds me of Tsukomoto's Bullet Ballet or Cronenberg's Crash, but then disguised as a cheap cop/thriller story. Despite frantic efforts to make the most of it, Bigelow again falls short. In the meantime I've seen about 5 movies, she can't really convince me yet.

2.5*

Last seen in 2007 and now my vote of 4 no longer applies unfortunately, but as far as I'm concerned still a 3.5. Although the film is fairly predictable and the plot we have seen before, the young Jamie Lee Curtis does it very nicely, and Ron Silver also plays his part with conviction. The atmospheric shots of the city are also abundantly present, perhaps not special, but still a very entertaining end product.
