FBI agent Cathy Weaver is sent to Chicago to investigate the murder of a progressive radio host. The man had not made himself popular among the conservative peasants. Gary Simmons, a grain farmer with far-right sympathies, is suspected of being involved in the murder. Cathy poses as a seasonal worker Katie Philips and that's how she comes into contact with Simmons. It doesn't take long, however, before she is attracted to him. She can't believe he has anything to do with the crime anyway. When she reports this to her superiors, she is nevertheless expressly requested to keep a close eye on him.
