Exciting film that I would describe as a thriller with influences from the 1930s Universal horror. Paul Raden's inability to behave socially appropriate evokes memories of James Whale's Frankenstein and there are also elements that remind me of the expressionist classic Das Cabinet des. Dr. Caligari, in which a psychotic also starts killing. The influence of Expressionism is the natural result of the hand of the German cinematographer Theodor Sparkuhl, who would later collaborate on two other early film noirs (The Glass Key and Street of Chance). I therefore find the lighting, in its expressionistic way, very successful and completely determines the dark atmosphere of the film.
It is a fairly short film (67 min.), with a solid pace to get the story told. Albert Dekker plays an excellent (main) double role. The other actors give solid performances as well. Susan Hayward is, admittedly, a beautiful actress who also plays her role beautifully. And in addition, this is also the penultimate film by Frances Farmer, before she would unfortunately fall to her own demons.

A forgotten film that, in my opinion, is not inferior to the more well-known suspense/horror movies from that time. Would be nice to see it in a restored version.

Not my thing, couldn't do much with it. The idea behind the film is okay and Dekker doesn't do a bad job in the leading role(s), but it didn't interest me. I also thought the ending of the movie was a bit exaggerated. Oh yeah.

Reasonable B movie about a mentally disturbed man who has been hidden for years by his family's doctor and the twin brother who doesn't know he's still alive.

Albert dekker plays the double role very well.

The scenes in which he mingles with the common people and his inability to adapt are the strongest moments in the film.
