A Most Wanted Man plot
'A Most Wanted Man' is set in Hamburg, where a nearly dead man, half Chechen-half Russian, is on the run and ends up in the city's Islamic community. Here the man seeks help and tries to get hold of his deceased father's fortune. He comes into contact with a young female lawyer and a British private banker. They are all the while being watched by a German spy unit.

Well made, only the tension is missing and all characters stay at a distance. That's especially true for the person it's all about, Issa. Halfway through the film he seems to get a little closer, I thought that would be a brilliant move and only then shift the perspective to Issa, but no we don't get to know him further. So it doesn't really matter what happens to him next.
What should be a paranoia thriller doesn't feel that way.
Missed opportunity also that nobody speaks German in Hamburg, which does not exactly benefit the realism. You would think Germany has plenty of good actors walking around.

Very slow spy thriller that is unsatisfactory in several respects. The fact, often mentioned above, that Americans speak English with a cowardly German accent is indeed not good

It is often complained here that the film is too slow, too little action. It's not an action movie either.
It seems to me that the reality is actually more honored here. Except for the language choice.
Hoffmann very good. Rest quite well. Story clearly indicates that there is no black and white, but also a lot of gray area, where you have to hope to deal with the right people.
