Not one of Hitchcock's strongest films, but entertaining and exciting enough. The cat-and-mouse game between Farley Granger and Robert Walker is highly entertaining and the film features some memorable set pieces, resulting in a thrilling climax on a merry-go-round. A bit bland and ordinary here and there, but with just enough speed and nice finds to keep the attention.

For me Strangers on a train is one of the better and even one of the best Hitchcocks I've seen. What a great plot this movie has that with a little imagination and imagination could just happen to you. Things deteriorate when the shrewd Bruno Anthony carries out his part of his diabolical plan and puts the knife to the throat of the astonished celebrity Guy Haines. Haines has no way out and is blackmailed. Going to the police would only put him in a more difficult position.
The nice thing about the film is that Anthony presents his dilemma to other individuals several times out of arrogance and while playing. The uncomfortable dilemma is laughed away, but opening also makes some people fantasize. Wonderful dialogues, tension and suspense. Robert Walker is doing a fantastic job as a psychopath. The camera work is also of a high standard. The highlight is the murder of the woman, where the deed can be seen in the reflection of the fallen glasses.
The final scene on the merry-go-round was fun and is one of the highlights of the film. Highsmith's book is not quite followed and Hitchcock gave it his own plot and again did it in his own exciting way. Beautiful!

Hitchcock with one of his better thrillers. It's a wonder he made EVEN better movies. Above all, the film is a good story. Hitchcock bought the rights to the book anonymously (anonymously so they wouldn't charge more because he was Hitchcock). Actually great, because usually you get to see a murder and the question is who has the perpetrator. Now you get to see a murderer and you are left wondering if there will be another murder.
Hitchcock is sometimes a bit theatrical, of course it is his well-known style. But that is allowed and in the end he creates the necessary tension. Some shots that may seem forced because they are a lot imitated, but they are efficient. Well done I must say. Farley Granger is quite suitable in the lead role (alongside Robert Walker). Because he has the same look that makes him smile at everything in the beginning. And a polar opposite is the strong presence of Robert Walker. Among the women, Patricia Hitchcock falls in the role of Barbara, the sister of Guy's fiancée. A role that you often saw in those days of the younger sister, a bit looser than the older sister or brother, but with witty remarks. It brings some extra spice to the dialogues.
The film has a less well-known cast than the usual Hitchcock films. Farley Granger's (also seen in Rope) career didn't quite take off. And also for the rest of the cast this is the pinnacle of their palmares. But that's just right and brings a nice balance to the acting. In addition, the story is a bit more forward. Hitchcock is really in shape and can represent things with images that don't really need to be pronounced. He may have a style that is less popular these days, but as far as I'm concerned still a classic that can be seen.
