Last saw this movie about 2 yrs ago, and before that 1x a year earlier. Then bought the DVD. I tell this to indicate that I think it is a special film. Don't write a full review of the entire film now, that's been done here several times in the meantime. I just want to touch on a point that has come up many times. This film would be sweet, sentimental: well, I don't agree. AI grabbed me by the throat, both times left me with a gag in my throat a few minutes after the game was over. And THAT doesn't do a mere sentimental movie to me. It made me think about the question: what is humanity? That is, in 4 words, what this film is about! Could it not be that David - the child-robot - is more human than, for example, his own (human) parents? Then his scum of a "human" brother? Than the rest of the people he comes into contact with later? The answer to these 3 questions is YES.

Spielberg's definitive masterpiece. What is it with that fear of sentiment? That's what makes this movie so beautiful. A sublime, unforgettable fairy tale.
