The Butterfly Effect plot

"Change one thing. Change everything."

Twenty-year-old college student Evan Treborn (Ashton Kutcher) has a unique but life-threatening gift. He is able to return to his past. For Evan, who is plagued with guilt, it seems like the ideal way to get the lives of his friends - especially his ex-lover Kayleigh - back on track. But Evan doesn't take into account the so-called 'butterfly effect', the iron law that states that the smallest change in the past has a huge impact on the future. He soon loses control of his gift. The consequences are incalculable...

Bizarre nonsense film with a lot of senseless violence, which is mainly committed by children. That makes it extra bad. Also, I'm not a fan of Ashton Kutcher anyway, not to mention Amy Smart. The fact that he got to work in the film industry at all must have been the result of some miraculous butterfly effect, given the lack of any kind of acting talent.

The film is nothing like the almost eponymous, but innocent Le Battement d'Ailes du Papillon (2000) with Audrey Tautou.

You can wake me up anytime for movies about time travel. Even if it's a piece of shit like The Butterfly Effect. Because this is one long 'find the mistake'. There's no one in here who can even act, the dialogues feel incredibly forced, the screenplay is as messy as my bedroom, the direction is that of a soap opera, the Christian symbolism they ram into it is completely unnecessary and Ashton Kutcher is one of those people who thinks that having a beard is enough to appear serious and lived-in. Out of annoyance you start paying attention to the small details, and those too are too careless for words (that drawing is really too good to come from a child). And that while so much more could be done with this genius premise. A huge missed opportunity, take a closer look Mr. Nobody or Back to Tomorrow instead.

Rewatched this movie last weekend because my girlfriend hadn't seen it yet and wanted to.

I remember really liking this movie when it came out.

I have to say that that enthusiasm has diminished a lot in the rewatch.

It remains a great starting point, but time travel films quickly run into mistakes in their own rules.

In this way, this film also creates its own plot holes.

In the end, it's still a great movie, but it's not as good as I thought I remembered.
