“I truly believe that happiness is possible... even when you're thirty-three and have a bottom the size of two bowling balls.”

A lesser sequel. This second Bridget Jones adventure feels repetitive and has to pull too hard to stay interesting. Fortunately, the trio of Zellweger, Firth and Grant is back on track and they ensure that it all remains fascinating. The clumsy Bridget delivers some memorable scenes again, and she's got the laughs on her hand. Unfortunately, the script is not of the same standard.

Movie that shouldn't have been.

But perhaps again if you look at the yield of Bridget Jones. I actually see this trilogy mainly as women's films or films that you watch in company as a couple. Then the film probably works just a bit better than if you watch it alone.

The Edge of Reason follows the well-known Bridget Jones paths. Zellweger thus gets into trouble again in the old-fashioned way and reads a few typical quotes from her diary between the film. In the first movie it still worked, but here the effect has slowly worn off.

Also, the jokes themselves just aren't that much fun anymore. Only the scenes in the snow-covered mountains brought a laugh for the first time. A lot of jokes just don't suit me, but where part 1 could still be a bit smooth, this was longer and especially less memorable.

This film also regularly goes a bit more over-the-top with the jokes and the battle between Grant and Firth was a bit what made part 1 so smooth. This is clearly less discussed here, just like the fight between the two gentlemen was also less effective.

108 minutes was really too long. Mainly because the movie doesn't have much to say. Certain documents should therefore have simply been deleted, starting with the prison in Thailand. Zellweger, however, remains very good in her role and Grant and Firth are also doing what they are good at again. Charm at its best.

It is mainly the characters themselves that keep the film upright. Jokes often miss the mark, film lasts too long and unfortunately has too few memorable moments, despite the fact that it is all slightly bigger.

Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason had, in my opinion, just a little more body than its predecessor in terms of content.
