Paris, Texas is a film that has intrigued me to watch for a long time. I think ever since I saw The Straight Story with Harry Dean Stanton. That was also a simple, but very beautiful road movie. So is this one, but with this film I didn't [i]feel it like The Straight Story. Wenders sometimes shoots beautiful colors with relatively simple shots. The music also seems quite simple. It gives Paris, Texas a bit of a western-like feeling.

The pace is slow, but the atmosphere is (fortunately) there. A main character who does not speak for the first 25 minutes is also quite unseen. However, Harry Dean Stanton has such a character head that he doesn't need speech to keep a captive look. Emotionally I wasn't grabbed anywhere, although I don't think Paris, Texas is a bad film. You have to make time for this film - because it has nothing in common with the rush of today's society. It is like a babbling brook, you can immerse yourself in it and let yourself be carried away by the current. I expect to see this movie again in a few years. I am convinced that it will get better with a revision.

Good film in which a man suddenly finds his brother who has been missing for four years. Especially during the first half, the images and music fit together perfectly. The scenes in which the father and the son reconect are the most beautiful. Quite long-winded, but enough beautiful moments for a small 3.5 stars.

Unfortunately I am not that impressed. Strange, because normally I'm really into this kind of atmospheric, slow road movies. I certainly don't find the film to be so excessively slow (although it wouldn't have been a tragedy if there had been some cutting here and there), and the atmosphere is nice and laid-back. And the best point; the images/cinematography/camera work! Beautiful images are shown almost consistently. If it weren't for the fact that Harry Dean Stanton still looks 'relatively younger' here, someone could have perfectly told me that this film was made in 2007, for example. Image quality is really wonderful, and in combination with the slow pace, Paris Texas does come across as poetic at times.
But sometimes you can have things like individual components of a movie that work, and it's great on paper, but the whole thing doesn't really work. This was the case for me personally here; objectively, there is very little wrong with Paris Texas, but it never really came to life for me. I was also very intrigued at the beginning about the characters' pasts, and eventually there turns out to be a very banal explanation for why it all went wrong between Travis and his wife. but plot technically quite unsatisfactory, and it was suddenly also very explained at the end. I think that could have been incorporated into the story a little more organically.

But in general an 'objective' (strange word to use of course) nice film, which just didn't really work for me. Due to the atmosphere and the extremely beautiful images, the long 150-minute session was not entirely unpleasant. 2.5*.
