The highly-anticipated television adaptation of the Harry Potter novels will premiere in 2026, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Based on the novel series by J.K. Rowling, Warner Bros. produced movies The Philosopher's Stone, The Chamber of Secrets, The Prisoner of Azkaban, The Goblet of Fire, The Order of the Phoenix, The Half Blood Price, The Deathly Hallows Part I and The Deathly Hallows Part II.
The franchise has continued with the Fantastic Beasts movies, though they are nowhere near as critically or commercially successful.
In 2021. it was announced that Warner Bros. and HBO would be rebooting the franchise with a new series that would take place over 10 seasons with a brand new cast.
“We’ve not been shy about our excitement around Harry Potter,” executive David Zaslav said on a fourth-quarter earnings call this week.
“The last film was made more than a dozen years ago.
“I was in London a few weeks ago with Casey (HBO and Max chief Casey Bloys) and Channing (WBD TV chief Channing Dungey) and we spent some real time with J.K. and her team. Both sides are thrilled to be reigniting this franchise. Our conversations were great, and we couldn’t be more excited about what’s ahead. We can’t wait to share a decade of new stories with fans around the world on Max.”
Daniel Radcliffe will not be in the new Harry Potter
Daniel Radcliffe is the main representative of the franchise, even more so than Rowling, and so has been asked if he will be involved in the TV series in any capacity, like a cameo.
But, that won't be happening.
"My understanding is that they're trying to very much start fresh and I'm sure whoever is making them will want to make their own mark on it and probably not want to have to figure out how to get old Harry to cameo in this somewhere," he told ComicBook.com.
"So, I'm definitely not seeking it out in any way. But I do wish them, obviously, all the luck in the world and I'm very excited to have that torch passed. But I don't think it needs me to physically pass it."
