When filming a certain scene of Barbie, Gerta Gerwig started fantasy-casting the next James Bond.
Towards the end of the movie, a version of Ken - 'Basketball Ken' - "ascends to the throne" of Barbieland, taking over from regular Ken.
Throughout the whole production, Gerwig was so impressed by the performance of Kingsley Ben-Adir that she thought he would make a great 007.
“Everybody’s jaws dropped,” she recalled to Variety.
“I was like, get this footage to whoever is making James Bond immediately.”
As well as featuring in Barbie, Ben-Nadir is carving out an impressive Hollywood career and recently played a villain in Marvel's Disney+ series, Secret Invasion.
Would Gerwig direct a Bond movie?
Barbie is officially the most successful movie in history with a solo female director at the helm, and with Gerwig also set to direct a reboot of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, she is becoming one of the most sought-after names in Hollywood.
Interestingly, she was previously asked if she would consider directing a Bond movie.
“Oh my God. We’re going to just stick with some lions and some dolls for the moment," she said in a conversation with Total Film.
“But you never know. I really like Barbara Broccoli, so…”
Broccoli is currently searching for the next James Bond following Daniel Craig's retirement from the role.
