Recently watched several seasons of this series and The Good Doctor, which have a certain similarity: both series revolve around surgeons who also seem to be internists and radiologists at the same time, which is a bit strange . This series looks a bit more realistic. The hospital looks much less stylized, more like a real hospital; the characters are also a bit more realistic, can be really mean at times, while in The Good Docter everyone only has good intentions. Grey's Anatomy even carries on in that a bit, because the character Alex is over the top mean, which incidentally improves in later seasons.
Furthermore, the soap content in this series is large, with the men in particular coming across as very pathetic. I really don't understand the appeal of "Dr McDreamy" to the main character in this series. He's just a predator in this season and this clearly plays out in pre me-too times, as the main character gets most of the blame for their inappropriate relationship, while he's the one in charge. In later seasons, he is still a toxic person as far as I'm concerned. The main character is also quite boring; I can't really find anything special about her character, either character-wise or doctor-wise. Pompeo, who plays the main character, is also only a mediocre actress. It is incomprehensible that she got this leading role, while there are much better actresses around, such as Heigl and Oh. The latter plays the second best character of this series (although that is more reflected in later seasons). Best character is hands down the Nazi.
All in all a reasonable soap in a hospital setting, but with caveats. 2*.
