Trinity County sheriff: Escaped behavioral patient back in custody

GRIMES COUNTY, Texas (KTRE) - An escaped patient from a behavioral hospital with contacts in Trinity County is back in custody, officials say.

Scott Evan Shepple, 36, of Huntsville, was was reported missing from the Cypress Creek Behavioral Hospital in Houston around 8:45 a.m. Monday. According to Trinity County Sheriff Woody Wallace Tuesday morning, Shepple is now back in custody.

Shepple had been at the Grimes County Jail since Dec. 4, 2024, on charges including sexual assault, resisting arrest, and assaulting a peace officer before his transfer to the Houston hospital. Grimes County saud Shepple is suicidal and has violent tendencies, and has made statements regarding “suicide by cop.” He was said to have contacts in Trinity County.

Wallace said more information would be released later Tuesday.
