Arsenal have been offered a hint as to which team they could face in the next round of the Champions League, after defeating PSV Eindhoven 7-1 in the first leg of the last 16.

Mikel Arteta's side claimed a significant victory at the Phillips Stadion on Tuesday night. Jurrien Timber scored the opening goal before Ethan Nwaneri doubled the lead, just three minutes after - becoming third youngster to net in the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Mikel Merino also got his name on the scoresheet before Noa Lang got a goal back for the hosts from the penalty spot. Arsenal led 3-1 at the break and Martin Odegaard and Leandro Trossard would then extend the lead moments after the break.

Odegaard bagged a brace, netting Arsenal's sixth while substitute Riccardo Calafiori completed the 7-1 scoreline. But there is still the second leg to come at the Emirates Stadium next Wednesday.

The north Londoners will already know who they could face in the next round following the UEFA draw last month - facing either face Real Madrid or Atletico Madrid in the quarter-final.

Both Spanish teams were in action against each other on Tuesday night, and the result has offered a hint as to which team Arteta's side could face. Real Madrid claimed a 2-1 victory over their local rivals.

Rodrygo opened the scoring for the hosts before former Manchester City star Julian Alvarez put matters level at the Santiago Bernabeu. The hosts then bagged as second through Brahim Diaz in the second half and will take a one goal advantage to the Wanda Metropolitano.

Unlike Arsenal, it's all still to play for in the second leg. Arsenal have not faced the Spanish giants since 2006, when they came away 1-0 winners in the first leg and drew 0-0 in the second.

As for Atletico Madrid, their last meeting came in 2018, with the first leg ending in a 1-1 draw and the second ended in a 1-0 defeat.
