Keeping track of every new video game release is a nearly impossible task. Games are constantly being announced, delayed, rereleased on new platforms, remastered, canceled — you get the point. With the upcoming games lineup constantly shifting on PC, Switch, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5, and mobile, it can be hard to find games to look forward to playing (and to budget for) in the coming months.

Despite the herculean task of tracking an entire year of video game release dates, we’re giving it our best shot. Check out this month-by-month schedule of new video game releases. We’re focusing mainly on highly anticipated titles with concrete release dates, but will also include little-known indies and keep an eye on launch plans for up-in-the-air titles like Grand Theft Auto 6 or games that are still very early on in development like Hogwarts Legacy 2 or The Last of Us Part 3. If you’re looking to get a quick glance at the future of video games, this is the place. We’ll keep this list updated and as accurate as possible at regular intervals.

2025 release dates

Now that 2025 is here, the early months are already filling up with pretty impressive game releases. We’ll be sure to note games that have expected or rumored release windows alongside games with solid launch plans.

We all come to video games for different reasons. Sometimes we want a chill game to relax to, others a fun co-op experience with a friend, but other times we're looking for a challenge. Early on in the console generations, difficulty was the norm and it took a lot of trial, error, and skill to even see the end of most games. We still face hard bosses in modern games, but it usually isn't the entire game that is punishing. There's an expectation that most people will be able to beat most current and upcoming video games, but not all games are so kind. Whether it be due to bad controls, unfair mechanics, or simply because the developers wanted to make things unfair, these are the most difficult video games of all time.

Before getting to the list, we are basing this list on the core game itself and not any extra challenges or going for secret endings. We also won't be including games that are meant to be impossible or that feature user-generated content.

dungeons of hinterberg preview gdc 2024 combat

Dungeons of Hinterberg, the cel-shaded action RPG from Curve Games and Microbird, is making its way to the PlayStation 5. You can play it for yourself on March 13. The price hasn't been confirmed, but it goes for $30 on both Xbox and Steam, so it'll likely be the same price when it drops on PlayStation.

The game will come with all existing content, including the New Game Plus mode. If you've never played Dungeons of Hinterberg before, that means more than 25 different dungeons to explore across four different biomes, each set in a different, picturesque part of the Alps. But wait, there's more: the PlayStation 5 version will get a new, secret bonus episode.

Games come in all shapes and sizes, and a longer game isn't necessarily better than one you can beat in an afternoon. That said, as the video game generations have gone on and hardware has improved, some developers have pushed the limits on just how long a game can last. Now, we have tons of live-service games, MMORPGs, and multiplayer games that technically have no end to them at all. However, looking at games that can in fact be beaten, some titles might as well be endless for how much time they ask of the player. If you are looking for a game you can sink dozens and dozens of hours into, we've found the longest video games of all time.

Note: While some live-service and MMOs do have storylines, we aren't counting them here due to them being ongoing. Likewise, sandbox games only count if there is a way to finish the game. We also used How Long to Beat for a general consensus on the hour count for each of these games based on the Main Story ranking.
