Iron Man 3 star William Sadler has said that Marvel cut his cameo from fellow comic book outing Ant-Man.

The actor, who will soon be seen reprising his role as Death in the eagerly-anticipated sequel Bill & Ted: Face the Music, appeared in Tony Stark's third solo outing as US President Matthew Ellis.

He played the same character again in a few episodes of Agents of SHIELD as well.

It seemed like he was on his way to becoming something of a Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau), Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) or Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) type figure, as a relatively minor MCU player who would show up in multiple titles.

However, his time in the franchise was cut short back in 2015.

"I actually shot a thing for Ant-Man," the 70-year-old revealed in a Facebook Live interview with Lights, Thunder, Action!."I shot a bit of President Matthew Ellis for Ant-Man but they decided to use a different president, I don't know."

He added of the cameo: "It was pretty silly!"

Released in 2013, Iron Man 3 follows the titular Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr) as he tries to overcome PTSD from the Battle of New York in Avengers Assemble. Elsewhere, an anonymous new villain named The Mandarin launches a threatening terrorist campaign that Tony is forced to thwart.

Ant-Man stars Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly and Paul Rudd, and centres on ex-convict Scott Lang.

While carrying out one last robbery, he pinches a mysterious suit from acclaimed scientist Hank Pym, and discovers it gives the wearer super-strength and the ability to shrink down to the size of an insect.
