Three juveniles and 18-year-old arrested after stabbing outside Westfarms mall

A woman was allegedly stabbed in the leg outside the Westfarms mall Sunday and suspects have been charged, police said.

The Farmington Police Department said officers responded to a parking lot outside of the Westfarms mall just before 4:30 p.m. Sunday after receiving a reported that a female had been stabbed in the leg.

Officers arrived on scene and provided medical care, police said. The victim was then taken by ambulance to an area hospital for further treatment, police said. The hospital was not named.

“Officers have located and detained suspects in connection with this incident,” police said. “The investigation is currently ongoing and there is currently no danger to the public.”

Farmington officers found the suspects hiding in the woods and learned that a group of mostly juveniles allegedly had come to the mall for a fight, police said.

The pocketknife was recovered in the woods with the assistance of a Bristol police dog, Farmington police said. The juveniles had “walked out of the upper-level parking garage which was sparsely populated,” police said.

Police said a suspect identified as Destiny Burgos, 18, of Hartford, allegedly began fighting with a 15-year-old female, and that during the fight, “while other juvenile attendees were recording with their phones, the 15-year-old suspect retrieved a pocket knife from her pocket and stabbed Burgos multiple times in the leg before fleeing the scene with her accomplice.”

Burgos was treated on scene for non-life-threatening injuries, then was taken to an area hospital.

As a result of this incident, four people, including three juveniles were identified as being the alleged “primary instigators and aggressors,” police said. and all four are charged with second-degree  breach of peace.

The 15-year-old stabbing suspect was taken into custody and also is charged with assault and  reckless endangerment, both in the first degree.

Burgos is additionally charged with third-degree assault, police said.
