RESUMO: O artigo propõe uma reflexão sobre a adaptação do mito de Fedra desenvolvido por Eurípides, Sêneca e Racine na peça Phaedra's love de Sarah Kane. Nesse sentido, investiga as formas propostas pela dramaturga britânica na sua releitura do mito em razão dos parâmetros estéticos da contemporaneidade a partir da tradução do original inglês por Pedro Marques. A essência do mito é preservada; porém, é ocultado o pudor de Eurípides, Sêneca ou Racine, imposto pelos contextos grego, romano e clássico francês. A análise das estruturas dramatúrgicas evidencia as diferentes traduções do mito em razão dos diferentes contextos, ou seja, a evolução da tragédia grega à tragédia romana e clássica, até a quebra operada pela forma pós-dramática proposta por Sarah Kane.

Organizza da vari anni il Simposio Ciceroniano di Arpino, che raccoglie gli interventi di studiosi italiani e stranieri su tematiche ciceroniane e ha pubblicato numerosi lavori sulla ricezione di Cicerone in epoca antica. Il volume contiene gli Atti del XIII Simposio Ciceroniano, svoltosi nel maggio 2024 in occasione del XLIII Certamen Ciceronianum Arpinas, e raccoglie tre relazioni. La prima, di Alice Borgna, è dedicata alle vicende familiari di Quinto, nipote di Cicerone e di Attico, e ci fornisce uno spaccato delle dinamiche familiari che coinvolgono un giovane su cui pesano i legami sociali e politici fra due importanti famiglie come quelle cui appartengono i suoi due zii. La seconda, di Barbara Del Giovane, ci introduce in un aspetto forse meno noto della personalità dell'Arpinate: l'uso dell'ironia e dell'umorismo, valorizzato nel mondo antico e del quale restano numerose testimonianze. Infine Alfredo Casamento descrive, a partire da un episodio narrato nella IX Filippica, l'importanza che Cicerone attribuisce alle statue onorarie come testimonianza delle virtù civili di un personaggio, destinate, pur nella loro impossibilità di costituire una memoria perenne, a fornire stimolo e impulso all'esercizio di tali virtù.

Ziel und Methodik dieser Untersuchung Der vorliegende Vergleich zwischen dem Mehrheits-bzw. byzantinischen Text (repräsentiert durch die Robinson-Pierpont-Edition, RP) und dem Nestle-Aland 28 (NA28) im Philemonbrief verfolgt das Ziel, aufzuzeigen, dass die sogenannten "kritischen" Lesarten des NA28 häufig auf sekundäre, teils redaktionelle Eingriffe zurückzuführen sind, abgesehen von den bekannten scribal blunders wie h.t., h.a. etc. Dies wird Vers-für-Vers nachgewiesen.

The paper proposes the first edition of 13 marginalia of iological content which are found on the folios of the ms. Par. gr. 2205 (11th cent.) transmitting Paul of Aegina’s chapters on venomous animals (Epitome medica v). Their edition serves the purpose of identifying their source through a textual comparison with both Philumenus’ De venenatis animalibus and Aetius of Amida’s Libri medicinales xiii, the latter being a compilation of the former.

Methodische Grundlagen der Bewertung Die Analyse folgt der Prämisse, dass der Robinson-Pierpont (RP) Text (basierend auf dem Byzantinischen Mehrheitstext) die ursprüngliche Lesart des Neuen Testaments bewahrt, während der Nestle-Aland 28 (NA28) Text als sekundär und fehleranfällig gilt. Der NA28 stützt sich auf wenige, oft fragmentarische alexandrinische Handschriften, die grammatische Unstimmigkeiten und theologische Verflachungen aufweisen.

Die vorliegende Analyse vergleicht den Nestle-Aland 28 (NA28) Text mit dem Robinson-Pierpont (RP) Text des 1. Johannesbriefes. Grundlage ist die Prämisse, dass der RP-Text, der auf dem Byzantinischen Mehrheitstext basiert, die ursprüngliche und kohärente Lesart des Neuen Testaments bewahrt hat. Der NA28-Text hingegen stützt sich primär auf die alexandrinische Handschriftentradition, die durch fragmentarische Quellen und redaktionelle Eingriffe geprägt ist. Diese Analyse identifiziert und kategorisiert textkritische Abweichungen, die theologische Verflachungen, grammatikalische Inkonsistenzen und editorische Willkür im NA28-Text offenbaren.

Die textkritische Analyse aller relevanten Varianten im Jakobusbrief hat gezeigt, dass RP durchgehend Lesarten bietet, die gegenüber dem Nestle-Aland 28 (NA28) in allen Aspekten überlegen sind. Jeder Vers mit Varianten wird ausgiebig diskutiert.

The article puts forward a new functionalist approach to Pindaric meter, inspired by Snell's dynamic analysis of lyric cola and research on rhythm in modern European syllabo-accentual poetry. Pindar is shown to employ cola-like syllable series, termed rhythmical figures (for example, long sequences of light syllables), as local prosodic events within individual poems that belong (mostly) to the non-dactylo-epitritic ("Aeolic") subcorpus of the epinikia. These rhythmical figures are often buttressed by word boundaries, especially toward the beginning of the poem, making them more easily perceptible. Pindar's use of this device reveals an added level of complexity in metrical responsion, which extends beyond rhythm and lexical recurrence to prosodic phrases marked by word boundaries.

Although the evidence is limited, examples of professional female poets who composed public songs for their communities, commissioned by wealthy families and women patrons, suggest that female performance activated the same economic dynamics as the work of male poets in relation to their patrons. Thus, women contributed to the economic life of their communities through their poetic voices, and were able to express their views on social, political and economic matters.

The article delves into the complex emotional and psychological landscape of Achilles as portrayed in Homer's "Iliad", particularly focusing on his dream of Patroclus. In his dream, Achilles is confronted by the ghost of Patroclus, who reproaches him for neglecting his burial. The narrative highlights Achilles' consuming wrath and its dehumanizing effects, turning him into a relentless force of destruction, indifferent to both divine and human pleas for mercy. The piece also explores the cyclical nature of violence and revenge, emphasizing the futility and transient satisfaction derived from vengeance, as well as drawing parallels between ancient and modern acts of war.

Abstract · Traces of Apollonius Mys’ Treatise On Perfumes in Pliny the Elder: Methods
of Recovering and Reusing a Lost Work · The only passage from the writing On Perfumes
by Apollonius Mys – an Alexandrian physician of the school of Erophilus – is
preserved by Athenaeus, who reports it as a direct quotation. However, we also find
traces of the same passage in Pliny the Elder (Nat. 13, 4-6), who takes it from other
authors and reworks it. The article examines Pliny’s chapters and asks how the
naturalist (or his sources) re-elaborated and re-employed Apollonius’ text.

durchgehend vollständiger, theologisch präziser und narrativ kohärenter als der kritische
Text, der oft kürzere Lesarten bevorzugt. Zudem spiegelt er den Konsens der NT

Resumen Este artículo pretende reflexionar sobre los motivos por los que la Ilíada de Homero ha sido tan traducida a lo largo de la historia y sobre por qué sentimos la necesidad de crear nuevas traducciones de tal obra. Usaremos un fragmento de un episodio de la historia, los dioses en asamblea ante Troya, y algunas traducciones en inglés y en español de los siglos XX y XXI de ese fragmento, incluidas traducciones producidas por inteligencia artificial, para descubrir las razones por las que se sigue traduciendo la obra en ambas lenguas. La adaptación del texto a la época, la preservación de su estatus de obra clásica y la creatividad que la misma obra inspira parecen las razones más evidentes para seguir traduciendo la Ilíada.

Alexandrian poetry is mostly characterized by the metrical forms of the hexameter and the elegiac distich, but also provides evidence of experimental attempts to innovate formal aspects of rhythm and metre. Taking inspiration from the archaic tradition of monody and song-making, especially in the third century B.C. poets toyed with verse forms that allowed them to 'widen the repertory' of metres available for the composition of literary poems, 1 using them in stichic forms, as markers of poetic expertise. This article explores some of these experiments and aims at unveiling the Hellenistic reuse of metres from the archaic tradition of lyric poetry (such as the greater asclepiad and the pherecratean) to evoke specific narrative tropes, thus generating literary associations through metre.

This paper studies Medea’s role in the Argonautica of Apollonius of Rhodes by examining her epithets, as well as when and how many times her proper name is mentioned. The use of the Homeric epithets πολυφάρμακος and πολυκέρδης establishes a link with the Apollonius’ narrative which is totally different from what we have in Homer. Regarding the latter epithet, the meaning has undergone a change as a result of the new Hellenistic message. Besides these, another lemma occurs as an epithet, κακόν, when it is used as an appositive for Medea.
These three Greek lemmas allow the reader to follow the character’s deeds from the point when she falls in love until she bewitches Talos. The lemma κακόν also provides information for foreseeing what Medea will become. The poet does not neglect to include in his narrative certain mythical signs which make the reader remember what he already knows. In fact, drama turned the unfortunate life of Medea as Jason’s wife into a very well‑ -known story. From the meaning of this last epithet, κακόν, comes a compound noun that is a conventional epithet in Homer: ἀνδροφόνος, which is ascribed subtly to Medea and Jason in a critical way.

Neste livro, apresentamos noções básicas gerais referentes à sintaxe do português, seu campo de investigação e seus limites em relação às demais áreas dos estudos linguísticos. Nessa direção, contemplamos o exame dos componentes internos da sentença, observando seus constituintes imediatos (os sintagmas) e as relações entre eles. É também de interesse da sintaxe a análise dos processos que
governam a articulação de sentenças na formação de períodos. Nesse sentido, apresentamos a caracterização do chamado período composto sob a persepctiva tradicional e, em seguida, explicitamos a visão funcionalista sobre os processos decombinação oracional. Apresentamos, de forma didática, a parataxe, a hipotaxe, a subordinação e a correlação. Também contemplamos os fenômenos de concordância e de regência, quer sob a ótica tradicional, quer em termos de variação. Por fim, discutimos o ensino de sintaxe na Educação Básica com base na associação entre premissas funcionalistas e as orientações curriculares oficiais no contexto brasileiro.

Ithaca, though humble in appearance, represents stability, continuity, and emotional restoration, offering Odysseus the opportunity to reclaim his roles as king, husband, and father. The contrast between the allure of transient pleasures in foreign lands and the lasting significance of Ithaca underscores the central theme of The Odyssey: that true homecoming lies not in escaping challenges, but in embracing the responsibilities and emotional connections that define a meaningful life. Ultimately, Homer’s epic reveals that the quest for home is not just a physical journey but a profound internal process of self-discovery and renewal.

Alcesti, canta il Coro di Euripide, è la migliore delle donne sotto il sole. È la moglie ideale. È il sogno degli Admeti di tutti i tempi. Ma la tragedia di Euripide non addita un modello di comportamento esemplare alle donne del suo tempo: indaga, invece, proprio sulla natura di questo sogno tutto maschile, ne smaschera i contorni meno edificanti, lo inquadra all’interno di un universo virile affollato di contraddizioni. L’Alcesti di Euripide ci parla di una grande donna e di un piccolo uomo, della smisurata statura morale di lei e dell’unica e sopravvalutata virtù attribuibile a lui; ci parla del sentimento profondo che lega comunque questa coppia asimmetrica, in un mondo che dissociava per consuetudine amore e matrimonio. E apre alla possibilità di un nuovo dialogo tra uomo e donna.

In recent scholarship on Late Antiquity, attention has been increasingly paid to the concept of boundaries. Understood as frontiers, margins or limits, boundaries serve as defining lines between literary genres, group identities, geographical regions, religions, and more. Throughout history boundaries have created conflicts, intolerance, and distinctions. However, they can also be crossed: providing opportunities for coherence, tolerance, and exchange, boundaries are noteworthy above all for their multifaceted nature, their various dimensions and, paradoxically, their inherent permeability.

Studying Late Antiquity (4th-9th c.) from this perspective allows us to situate the period in its Eurasian and African context by considering differences and similarities within empires and beyond, focusing on what unites and divides. It also affords us the opportunity to consider disciplinary boundaries. Given the difficulty of studying such an intricate mixture of languages, cultures, sources, and contexts, inter-disciplinary cooperation has become crucial.

This conference aims to overcome “the tendency of most disciplines to consolidate their boundaries even as they attempt to broaden their scope and membership” (F. Trivellato, On the Margins,  2021, p. 249) by gathering junior scholars from different disciplinary fields; it also aims to discuss boundaries in all their manifestations, from a diverse range of angles. Through presentations, keynote lectures, and open conversations, we hope to stimulate new insights for postgraduate researchers of the Later Roman Empire, Late Antiquity and the Early Middle Ages.

This paper focuses on one of ancient mythology's most notorious voices, the nymph Circe, daughter of the Sun and witch of Aeaea. Tracing the evolution of Circe's mythology through the works of Vergil, Ovid, and Valerius Flaccus, it shows how these early imperial authors use her presence in Rome's family tree to push back on Augustus' version of Rome's genealogy and his own right to rule. By embedding Circe in the "Italian" side of Rome's antecedents, they demonstrate the fragility of the principate's claim to legitimacy through control of Rome's inheritance.
