whose line is it anyway?

First a hasty exit from Studio 8H, and now this — Morgan Wallen really wasn’t living for Saturday Night Live, huh? “Page Six” reports that the country singer declined to make a musical cameo in a pre-taped sketch for SNL’s March 29 episode, which he performed on as the musical guest. Instead, Joe Jonas stepped in as the replacement and sang a few lines for “Big Dumb Line,” which pokes fun at the New York pastime of waiting in long lines for viral food (and seems pretty clearly inspired by a column in New York Magazine’s very own Grub Street). Jonas pops up at the end of the three-minute sketch to join Chloe Fineman, Ego Nwodim, Sarah Sherman, and host Mikey Madison in encouraging Bowen Yang not to go home. “You deserve this viral Greek yogurt or to try Lisa Rinna’s wine / So don’t give up,” he sings. “The rewards will be splendid / Did Amelia Earhart give up? / I’m not sure how that ended.”

At the end of the episode, Wallen — who was there promoting his upcoming album, I’m the Problem — said a quick good-bye to Madison, then walked off without hanging around for the standard hugs and handshakes with the rest of the cast. He later shared an Instagram Story of a private jet with the caption, “Get me to God’s country.” Is it possible that Wallen was feeling so miserable that he simply couldn’t stand to spend any extra time with the cast, whether that meant filming a sketch or chit-chatting through the credits? To be fair, a source from Wallen’s camp previously told Variety that the singer didn’t mean to upset anyone and actually had a good time on SNL. Regardless of how much you believe that, the singer definitely got at least one thing out of this appearance — there’s now “Get me to God’s country” merch being sold on his official website.
