Mike Myers's The Love Guru was the big winner, or perhaps that should be loser, at this year's Golden Raspberries, the awards ceremony dedicated to the year's most awful examples of film-making.
As Hollywood was preparing for Sunday night's Oscars, the comedy flop won "Razzies" for worst picture and worst screenplay, while Myers himself took worst actor for his portrayal of the mystic Pitka, who is hired to cheer up a cuckold hockey star.
The Guardian's Peter Bradshaw called it a "daft, immature, occasionally sentimental comedy", although he admitted liking it far more than his fellow critics, handing the movie a generous three star review.
Myers just trumped Paris Hilton, who picked up two awards, achieving the rare double of worst actress and worst supporting actress. A headline role in farce The Hottie and the Nottie, which has been one of the year's worst-reviewed films, and a supporting turn in Repo! The Genetic Opera, won her the gongs.
Razzie founder John Wilson, who has been running the alternate awards ceremony since 1980, said The Love Guru had been "one of the big disasters of the year".
"The main thing wrong with it is no one said to Myers that it wasn't funny," he said. "He managed to offend the entire Indian population and his investors."
The Hottie and the Nottie, added Wilson, should ensure Hilton's name was never billed above the title again.
Neither Myers nor Hilton turned up to accept their awards, unlike Halle Berry, who gamely arrived in person to collect her worst actress gong for Catwoman in 2005.
