In the years immediately prior to the British Invasion, only one performer rivaled the chart dominance of Elvis Presley ... and that was Pat Boone.
The major record labels wanted nothing to do with it (R&B) until Pop artists like PAT BOONE began to strike gold with genteel cover versions of R&B hits. Major label singers didn't so much steal the thunder of indie artists as send curious listeners in search of the original sound.
White singer PAT BOONE covered his (Fats Domino) song, "Ain't That A Shame." He says that was OK with him, he was the songwriter. And he's quick to point out his biggest ever, "Blueberry Hill," was a much older song that he (Fats) covered.
