Mark Harris: The sanctity of the ballot box is essential to our democracy, and federal government lays out the guidelines for how our elections are conducted via HAVA, but leave the decisions on what systems and how/when people can vote up to the states. The notion that the federal government or states are not monitoring rogue state actions and "hackers" attempts to sway or change our elections seems misguided to me. Much like terrorism, it is the events we do not hear about that are keeping us all safe.
A: I believe we need more disclosure and less regulation. Political speech is free speech, and as long as we know who is influencing our elections, I believe individuals should be able to express their opinions freely. The current system actually makes it easier to hide the money influencing our elections, such as the donors who have propped up my opponents' campaign to the tune of $250,000+.
