Local matching ensures that Feds fund right infrastructure

Q: Many members of Congress are concerned about our country's need to rebuild our transportation, energy, communications and education infrastructure. What do you believe the federal government should do to improve our infrastructure and how would you fund it?

Mark Harris: Our infrastructure is an obvious concern, and I think we need to consider innovative financing programs and be as concerned with the future of transportation in our country and around the world before we spend billions of dollars rebuilding certain roads and bridges just because they are there. Many state, counties, and cities have earmarked funds that go to matching their portion of federal building plans, and that is a good way to ensure the right projects get funded.
