Smashing Pumpkins perform Hole songs with Courtney Love, cover Sugar Ray, Joy Division and Led Zeppelin at 30th anniversary show

Smashing Pumpkins played a special 30th anniversary concert in Holmdel, New Jersey last night (August 2).

The band were joined by a number of special guests including Courtney Love, Deftones‘ frontman Chino Moreno, Peter Hook of Joy Division and New Order, AFI frontman Davey Havok, Sugar Ray’s Mark McGrath, and The Killers‘ Dave Keuning and Mark Stoermer.

They also performed Gish track ‘Snail’ for the first time in 18 years, while also treating fans to Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness’ song ‘Bodies’. Chino Moreno joined Smashing Pumpkins for those tracks, which you can see below.

Dave Keuning and Mark Stoermer of The Killers joined the band for ‘Cherub Rock’ and ‘1979’ while Sugar Ray’s Mark McGrath helped out on a cover of his band’s smash-hit track, ‘Fly’ as well as a cover of Judas Priest’s ‘Breaking the Law’. See footage of the Sugar Ray cover below.

Courtney Love was also a special guest and came out to perform Hole tracks ‘Celebrity Skin’ and ‘Malibu’ – songs which were co-written by Smashing Pumpkins frontman Corgan. She also helped out on a performance of Pumpkins’ song ‘Bullet With Butterfly Wings’. See a clip of her performances below.

Peter Hook guested on New Order’s ‘Age of Consent’, while AFI’s Davey Havok joined him and the band for a performance of ‘Transmission’.

Peter Hook’s son Jack Bates is currently touring as the Pumpkins’ bassist in the absence of original member D’Arcy Wretzky following the feud between her and frontman Billy Corgan.
