A Minecraft Movie is the exciting adaptation of the beloved game, and it has some fun and unexpected musical moments. (Warner Bros.)

The Minecraft Movie set proved to be a fun one because it turned into a concert, of sorts, thanks to the musical talents of lead Jack Black, the cast tell Yahoo UK.

Black plays Steve in the film, which features an all-new story using the sandbox game as inspiration, and the actor used the opportunity to perform a number of original songs. The Tenacious D singer knows how to carry a tune, and he gives the movie a musical twist with Steve's jingles about the world of Minecraft.

"Jack would sing all the time," Emma Myers reveals. "Him and Danielle would sing all the time. So I loved being front row of one of Jack's concerts, that was great fun."

Myers co-star Sebastian Hansen, who plays Henry the younger brother to her Natalie, in his excitement at the prospect of seeing Black in actual concert asked if she meant she went to one of his shows, only for Myers to say she meant on set: "It was up close and personal."

Hansen adds: "I think just meeting him is like going to see a concert, because Jack's just got such a character to him. But he sings a lot, like a good amount. There's a lot of songs in it, but good songs, like songs that get stuck in your head and then you can't get it out for a couple of days. I'd sing them too because we knew all the words, I mean I know all the words."

The Minecraft movie is not strictly a musical though, it is an adventure story that follows an unlikely group comprised of Henry, Natalie, former gaming superstar Garrett "The Garbage Man" Garrison (Jason Momoa) and Dawn (Danielle Brooks) who enter the world of Minecraft unexpectedly. There they are tasked with helping master crafter Steve in his quest to save the world from an army from another region intent on domination.

It's a story that is entirely new to the world, namely because Minecraft players can do what they want in the game without a set story. Hansen enjoyed the idea that was created for the film, though, reflecting: "I think it's great. I think this movie's been an idea for like around 12 to ten years, and I think that they really got to a good idea and it just works."

"Because it's a sandbox game, so there's no real set story," Myers adds. "I thought 'how are they going to do that? There's no story!' but then I got the script and of course Jared Hess is such a phenomenal director that it all kind of came together nicely."

Myers reveals that both she and Hansen were fans of the Minecraft game before they joined the film, and so being in the world meant everything to them: "I think being a part of it was so fun. It was a real nice breath of fresh air to just be silly and goofy, and make a Minecraft movie."

Hansen adds: "Working on it was just fun. I mean, I played it all the time when I was younger, so definitely getting to be on this film was such a fun experience, especially with Jason and Jack in the real world."

"They would thrive in the in the Minecraft world," the actor adds. "They're really fun people and they get to give us a really good taste on how good this movie is going to be. I think it really gives a good look into this movie."

Myers admits she found it a struggle not to break character with Black and Momoa going all out in their respective roles, they aren't too shy to seem silly or go over the top. It is probably the most Jack Black role that Jack Black has ever done, and that's not hyperbole.

"My character doesn't really find them funny so it's really hard to not laugh when they're acting in front of you," Myers admits. "They definitely had to cut around me, giggling! [It was] so hard, so hard."

A Minecraft Movie premieres in UK cinemas on Friday, 4 April.
