A Minecraft Movie is now in cinemas but given how huge the game franchise is chances are that its film adaptation will be a big enough to prompt talk of a sequel, and the cast tell Yahoo UK they have high hopes for one.

The movie is inspired by the sandbox game and follows an unlikely team comprised of siblings Henry (Sebastian Hansen), Natalie (Emma Myers), former gaming superstar Garrett "The Garbage Man" Garrison (Jason Momoa) and estate agent Dawn (Danielle Brooks) who enter the world of Minecraft unexpectedly. There they are tasked with helping master crafter Steve (Jack Black) in his quest to save the world from an army from another region intent on domination.

Myers and Hansen spoke to Yahoo UK about whether they feel a sequel could happen one day, and they were both enthusiastic about the possibility. The Wednesday star reflects: "Oh yeah, please. Minecraft 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 — as many as they'll have me in I would love to do!"

Hansen admits it would be "great [to] keep it going" but also is unsure how it could go about because of the way in which the movie tells a story entirely new to the world of the game so that means a potential sequel could go anywhere and do anything — which is an overwhelming concept.

When asked what he'd like to see happen next, Hansen admits: "I don't know, that's the thing, that's a Jared Hess question. I have to be honest, I've thought about that more than once. What would be our next adventure? And I have no idea because [it's a sandbox game].

Myers adds: "I'd love to meet some new people and some new mobs that we didn't see, yeah." Hansen agrees wholeheartedly, as he quips: "Well, if they add more things and we could go see them."

At the very least A Minecraft Movie leaves the door open for a sequel with the characters able to return to the world of Minecraft if they want to. So really the possibilities are endless for the film franchise, if it becomes one.

The first film will have to be a box office hit in order to be given a sequel, but the film is projected to hit $70 million, per The Wrap, in its first weekend which is a strong showing for the movie.
