Two Alabama state senators from metro Birmingham are among 11 named today to the Alabama Legislature's Reapportionment Committee, chosen by Lt. Gov. Kay Ivey.
Sen. Cam Ward, R-Alabaster, will represent the Sixth Congressional District and Sen. Linda Coleman, D-Birmingham, the Seventh Congressional District.
The committee's work will be to use figures from the 2010 Census to redraw where needed the boundaries of the state's seven congressional districts to balance representation of the state's population. The committee also will do the same for the 105 Alabama House districts and 35 Alabama Senate districts.
Other senators serving will be from:
First Congressional District -- Sen. Trip Pittman, R- Daphne,
Second Congressional District -- Sen. Jimmy Holley, R-Elba
Third Congressional District -- Sen Gerald Dial, R-Lineville
Fourth Congressional District -- Sen. Clay Scofield, R-Guntersville
Fifth Congressional District -- Sen. Bill Holtzclaw, R-Madison
The four at-large selections are Sen. Vivian Figures, D-Mobile; Sen. Arthur Orr, R-Decatur, Sen. Gerald Allen, R-Tuscaloosa; and Sen. Bryan Taylor, R- Prattville.
House Speaker Mike Hubbard will appoint 11 members from the House to the committee.
