Municipal Code
Municipal codes are "the collection of laws passed by a local governing body (often of a county, city, village, township, or other similar governmental subdivision)," according to the Library of Congress. Municipal codes can also be called ordinances, bylaws, measures, or charters.[1]
Following federal and state law, municipal codes are the laws that govern localities.[1] They are enacted, amended, and enforced by the municipality's government.[2]
Municipal codes often include the laws to create and maintain the municipality's government. They also set rules for the municipality's administration, elections, environment, fire department, health department, and police department. They can also set up laws for building, contracts, licensing, planning, public works, transportation, and zoning.[3][4][5]
