Flight Lieutenant plot
"Flying like angels! Fighting like demons! Loving like men!"
Pilot Samuel J. 'Sam' O'Doyle is professionally humiliated when he survives a plane crash that killed his copilot Thompson. Sam tries to find work elsewhere, but finds himself unable to shake off the burden of proof for his apparent dereliction of duty. Sam has even made the front page of newspapers writing about him against him. Desperate, Sam leaves for the tropics, leaving his young son Danny with his best friend Joseph Sanford. After several years, Danny also becomes a pilot, despite despising his father. Danny is now married to Susie Thompson, the daughter of his father's deceased copilot. When World War II breaks out, Danny is promoted to lieutenant in the Air Force and placed under the command of his father. Not long after, Sam takes on a very dangerous mission, for which his son Danny was actually assigned.
